The news felt like a hard punch to her stomach, and Julietta* was frightened.
An ultrasound had revealed an abnormality in her breast, and a biopsy was necessary… but Julietta couldn’t afford one. She left the testing facility overwhelmed with worry. Not only was Julietta concerned about cancer, the disease that took her mother’s life, but she also was worried about her family’s finances. She had lost her job recently and had a young daughter to support.
Her situation worsened when her husband died suddenly! With her limited English, Julietta didn’t know where to turn.
Thankfully, the testing facility had referred Julietta to Genesis. Following her first medical appointment, a biopsy and dental care were scheduled, and a prayer request for Julietta was added to the prayer list.
A bilingual Genesis staff member also helped connect Julietta to community partners in the Genesis network who assisted her with rent and utilities.
Genesis cared for Julietta during her cancer surgery and radiation treatments. Her most recent visit to the oncologist who participates in the Genesis Volunteer Physician’s Network brought good news.
A jubilant Julietta learned that because her cancer had been detected and treated early, it was now in remission.
Having been given the gift of health and peace of mind, Julietta’s outlook for the future is a hopeful one.
